Shane Lui
El Capitan

Captain of the Strait Support ship.

Business owner Shane Lui is the Managing Director and driving force of Strait Support.

Originating from Darnley Island in the Torres Strait, Shane is an accomplished civil plant operator who has dedicated his career to the civil construction industry. He is certified in Civil Construction Plant Operations, Surface Extraction Operations, and has completed Diplomas in Front Line Management and Workplace Health and Safety.

Commencing his career as a plant operator in Brisbane, Shane’s ambition drove him to start his own earthmoving business, which operated successfully for ten years throughout Brisbane and Far North Queensland.

After settling into Cairns with his young family, Shane turned his attention to mining and civil construction projects.   Combining 15 years’ experience in site supervision and project management, Shane excelled in managing site staff to assist in the delivery of a number of Queensland’s largest mining projects.

He is competent in developing and delivering risk management procedures and protocols and is confident in undertaking human resource roles, involving on-boarding, performance management, individual upskilling and training to contribute to continuous organisational improvement.

Strait Support is the brainchild of Shane, which combines his two professional goals in life – delivering high quality civil construction projects and providing improved outcomes for the Indigenous workforce.

Success in Shane’s eyes is seeing Strait Support provide genuine employment opportunities to his fellow people – encouraging them to believe in themselves whilst providing them with the conduit to succeed together.
